Summary

New York Times Bestseller

Joining the ranks of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, You Are a Badas*, and F*ck Feelings comes this refreshing, BS-free, self-empowerment guide that offers an honest, no-nonsense, tough-love approach to help you move past self-imposed limitations。

Are you tired of feeling fu*ked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer。 In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unfu*ked version of yourself。 ''Wake up to the miracle you are,'' he directs。 ''Here's what you've forgotten: You're a fu*king miracle of being。'' It isn't other people that are standing in your way, it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive, it's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself。

In Unfu*k Yourself, Bishop leads you through a series of seven assertions:

I am willing。
I am wired to win。
I got this。
I embrace the uncertainty。
I am not my thoughts; I am what I do。
I am relentless。
I expect nothing and accept everything。

Lead the life you were meant to have—Unfu*k Yourself。

A boring monologue! Author puts too much stress on just one or two points。 No stories shared, no experiences shared。 It was like preaching to you and push thoughts down your throat。

I think this book was a waste of money because basically it's telling you common sense。On the upside this book could serve as a review of principles some of us forget to live by or keep in mind。If the latter is true for you,I'd say get this book in the library or make sure you buy it at a very low low price。I found the whole thing annoying。 Alot of this is stuff I have heard before and forget at a times。I paid more for this book than I should and may very well end up passing it on via giving it I think this book was a waste of money because basically it's telling you common sense。On the upside this book could serve as a review of principles some of us forget to live by or keep in mind。If the latter is true for you,I'd say get this book in the library or make sure you buy it at a very low low price。I found the whole thing annoying。 Alot of this is stuff I have heard before and forget at a times。I paid more for this book than I should and may very well end up passing it on via giving it away or selling it。What drew me to this book in the first place was the title。It was a nice quick review or read but not very enjoyable。 I don't feel any better。 。。。more

I read a lot of self-help books。 So when I find one with a new nugget, or at least that presents an old nugget in a way that resonates with me, it's a winner! This book had three of those nuggets。 First, framing your actions in terms of what you are willing to do (I。e。 I'm willing to wake up at 6 am to work out。)。 Next, was to break out of your routine。 And finally, that every waking hour of your life should be focused on your cause (that is, having the life you want)。 If that wasn't enough, can I read a lot of self-help books。 So when I find one with a new nugget, or at least that presents an old nugget in a way that resonates with me, it's a winner! 1。 The kind of talk you engage in has a profound impact on the quality of your life2。 Positive self-talk can dramatically improve mood, boost confidence, increase productivity, and more。 It can be one of the key components to be a happy, successful life3。 Assertive self-talk (I am) intervenes in this moment of your life while narrative self-talk (I will) lives more like a description of what’s to come rather than what’s here4。 All too often, we focus solely on what we don’t have, even though dee 1。 The kind of talk you engage in has a profound impact on the quality of your life2。 Positive self-talk can dramatically improve mood, boost confidence, increase productivity, and more。 It can be one of the key components to be a happy, successful life3。 Assertive self-talk (I am) intervenes in this moment of your life while narrative self-talk (I will) lives more like a description of what’s to come rather than what’s here4。 All too often, we focus solely on what we don’t have, even though deep down we don’t really need it or perhaps event want it。 Instead of wasting time worrying about the things other people have, you’ll start focusing on what’s really important to you and your life。 You’ll realize that once you replace envy, lust, and desire with a willingness to change your life for the better, things really start to take shape5。 Making sure we’re striving for what we really want requires a constant check-in with ourselves。 It’s not a one-and-done deal6。 Face your reality。 Once you adopt the mindset of “I am unwilling”, you will no longer be filled with guilt, resentment or regret every time you see something you think you “want”。 You’ll be in a place where you are connected to and in tune with your real life and, if you really want to pursue those things in the future, you’ll be able to locate yourself from that reality and plot your road to accomplish them7。 You’re always winning because your brain is wired to。 The trouble comes when what you really want – on a subconscious level – and what you say you want are different, sometimes radically so8。 Our aversion to risk, which was once necessary, no longer is。 Those same survival instincts that once kept us alive can now be the very thing that keeps us from actually living9。 When you do try to stay in your comfort zone, you never truly feel comfortable。 There’s always that nagging feeling that you could be doing more。 There’s always that desire for a life that’s better than the one you have now。 The more we try to stay comfortable today, the more uncomfortable we’ll be tomorrow。 There really is no destination, there is only exploring, exploring and exploring10。 Part of our aversion to uncertainty comes from our fear of being judged by others11。 You change your life by doing, not by thinking about doing12。 Doing gets you doing what you need to do, also the quickest way to change your thoughts13。 Our biggest successes are born out of discomfort, uncertainty, and risk14。 The key to becoming relentless is to focus on the problem in front of you。 Give it full attention 。。。more

I think it’s mind-blowing for someone who is barely doing his/her first steps into change & into personal development。 It’s super-refreshing, easy-going, friendly to read。 It shows some general truths & views on life in a very honest manner。

Main advice is know when to listen and when not to。 The author's aviation knowledge and reading of stoicism is lacking。 The self help knowledge is solid because he specialized in this topic。 Best thing to do is to be relentless and persevere past obstacles in the spirit of the book。 Main advice is know when to listen and when not to。 The author's aviation knowledge and reading of stoicism is lacking。 The self help knowledge is solid because he specialized in this topic。 Best thing to do is to be relentless and persevere past obstacles in the spirit of the book。 。。。more

I just finished listening to this audio book and it was a great reminder。 It shared a lot about getting real with yourself and how to go about no longer playing the victim in your own story。 Change your thoughts by acting on what you want to accomplish to prove yourself wrong。

UNF*CK YOURSELF is another of those self-help books that is more of the same, however, this one is with a kick。 The message is simple - we need to get out of our heads and act now。Do you want to feel like someone kicks you in the groin first then explains to you how you've been ruining your life? If the answer is yes then this is the perfect book for you。Bishop doesn't talk nice and sweet。 He makes it feel like one of those "adult talk" sessions with your grandfather if you know what I mean。 Als UNF*CK YOURSELF is another of those self-help books that is more of the same, however, this one is with a kick。 The message is simple - we need to get out of our heads and act now。Do you want to feel like someone kicks you in the groin first then explains to you how you've been ruining your life? This is my second time through this book。 Bishop presents a no-nonsense approach to self-motivation and positive change, using some fairly common sense affirmations。 He narrows it down to seven main points。 While some of it is pretty familiar to the self-help genre, his manner and style is basically a straightforward tough love approach。 Think of your old high school coach with a penchant for swearing。 I found myself chuckling at some of his lessons and insights, despite the fact that I’ve rea This is my second time through this book。 Bishop presents a no-nonsense approach to self-motivation and positive change, using some fairly common sense affirmations。 He narrows it down to seven main points。 While some of it is pretty familiar to the self-help genre, his manner and style is basically a straightforward tough love approach。 Think of your old high school coach with a penchant for swearing。 I found myself chuckling at some of his lessons and insights, despite the fact that I’ve read them before。 There is a place for motivation of this sort, and that is right on my bookshelf in my collection。 I’ll be revisiting it again, and of that I am sure。 This book has wetted my appetite for his next one, “Wise as Fuck”, and I will be purchasing it shortly。 。。。more

Hey here's a formula that people will eat up: Say over and over that you need to take action to change your life, add a healthy serving of 'I'm REAL this isn't like other self-help bullsh*t books', sprinkle in some superficially relevant quotes from recognizable philosophers (albeit I do think Aristotle is appropriate), stir in some banal 'pop reverse psychology' and tell the reader this book is only for bad asses, and garnish with a jovial excuse for your proclivity to hard-hitting cursing due Hey here's a formula that people will eat up: Say over and over that you need to take action to change your life, add a healthy serving of 'I'm REAL this isn't like other self-help bullsh*t books', sprinkle in some superficially relevant quotes from recognizable philosophers (albeit I do think Aristotle is appropriate), stir in some banal 'pop reverse psychology' and tell the reader this book is only for bad asses, and garnish with a jovial excuse for your proclivity to hard-hitting cursing due to your Scottishness! While I do want to acknowledge with a 2-star review that while repetitive, blatantly obvious, and cliched the book can have a positive influence on people encouraging them to take action to improve their lives in a manner and switch to their active brain network, I take umbrage at two particular passages。 In chapter 2 Bishop tells the reader that if something is wrong with your health you simply need to "locate the kind of help you need。" It's quite presumptuous to assume someone dealing with a chronic condition or disease hasn't already exhaustively searched all medical resources for help。 I don't think anyone would choose a life with Leukemia。In chapter 9 Bishop claims "All of the 。。。 anti-anxiety medication in the world isn't going to improve your life if you're not willing to go out and take action and make changes。" As a call for personal action or therapy in ADDITION to a medicine to correct a neurochemical imbalance in the brain this sentiment is fine, but could very easily and dangerously be taken as a deterrent from a depressed reader seeking professional help。 Just no, this is dangerous。 。。。more
